Welcome to Sartorial Cinematography! If you have an interest in the history and theory of fashion and film, then you’ve come to the right place. I’m going to be watching and re-watching some older films (as well as newer ones), concentrating on sartorial details,  discussing the costume and styling choices. I want to address the historical, political, and sociological decisions of the costumes in the films we talk about here, but I also might just post pictures of costumes I like, because I like to look at nice things.

Here is one of my absolute favourite characters demonstrating quintessential late 1980s eclectic style, Holly (played by the incomparable Dianne Wiest) from Woody Allen’s Hannah and her Sisters.
